Beauty: Blood Orange Lipstick

Beauty: Blood Orange Lipstick

I'm a sucker for a red lip in winter. As much as I enjoy a retro-y red lip in summer, it's nearly a constant beauty decision in winter. It doesn't seem to matter how much I moisturize or hydrate in winter, my skin looks a little duller and a bright orange-y red lipstick seems to help distract from less than glowing skin. This blood orange shade by Cate McNabb is pretty close to perfect when it comes to my criteria for a red lip. The lipstick has a matte finish and when layered it really lasts--as a bonus it's also paraben-free and cruelty-free.
P.S. If you're nervous about wearing a bright colored lipstick and get self-conscious about it, then try applying the lipstick at least an hour before you leave the house. As you go about your everyday tasks in that hour you'll forget it's on your face and by the time you head out into the world you won't remember to be self-conscious.

This dress is perfect for summer days by the seashore...but those days are a few months away so right now it's hiding under some of my favorite winter accessories. Would you believe I've had this beret since high school? In case you're curious, I graduated in 2005 so that makes this beret around 10 years old! It was part of my uniform at the Catholic high school I attended my senior year--I practically have more stories from my one year at private school than all my previous years at public school (I don't think I'll be making the 10 year reunion, Hawaii is a bit far). For a lot of people a beret reminds them of French New Wave, chic Parisians, or even military groups, but for me it'll always be Mass Day...

What to wear New Year’s Eve

What to wear New Year’s Eve - From stylingyou.com.au/
Before I get into today’s post, I want to send out my thoughts to all those impacted by the siege in Sydney’s CBD yesterday.
I had to switch off Twitter and the TV as it was all just getting out of control. The GOOD reporting lost in a sea of dodgy journalism and a public undercurrent of racism.
It all makes me sad.
The talented Emma from Emma Kate Creative (the designer and co-creator of Scatter Love cards) so beautifully and creatively summed up where our hearts should be in the graphic below.
I choose love too and next time I catch the bus into Brisbane CBD #illridewithyou

What to wear New Year’s Eve

Ahh, the last evening of the year. It’s always fraught with so much anticipation, yes?
So much pressure played out on one night of the year.
If you have kids and don’t have a selfless babysitter on tap then the reality is a night in hoping that you’ll stay awake past the kids’ fireworks; if you have teenagers then you’ll most probably fall asleep sober and have an alarm set ready to do a pick-up; if you are free of all such handbrakes on a night out or you’re hosting one at home, then this post is for you. Good luck with the taxis!
We’ve already tackled the First World issue of what to wear Christmas Day, now it’s on to New Year’s Eve.
What to wear New Year’s Eve will of course depend on if and how you’re celebrating.
Staying in and not seeing anyone, nothing wrong with some pyjamas, I say.
Having friends over or heading out? Then think about the level of dress required and go from there.
The below examples will also work for any party invite or gathering through the summer holidays.
Use them as inspiration to shop from your own wardrobe or shopping ideas.

The family barbecue

It’s most probably going to be hot. You want to be comfortable but still feel put together. A frock – maxi or regular hem length – will work a treat. Keep is loose and flowy, team with strappy sandals and an accessory or two.
What to wear New Year's Eve - casual
1. Surafina maxi dress $99 | 2. Adrift Majique bangle $44.95 | 3. Bella Lido Roman sandal $79 | 4. Pratten tote bag $89 @ Blue Bungalow

Dinner out at a restaurant

Depending on the chosen restaurant, New Year’s Eve at a restaurant will often be one of those all-inclusive affairs. It may be cheap and cheerful or super fancy. With this outfit I’m erring somewhere in the middle and will let you ramp it up or down to suit the venue.
What to wear New Year's Eve - restaurant
1. Collette by Collette Dinnigan dress $299 @ Birdsnest^ | 2. Adorne clutch $34.95 | 3. Verali heels $79.95 @ Styletread^ | 4. Adorne earrings $10 (on sale)

Cocktail party

If a night of glitz and a whole lot of glam is on the cards then think, “what would Nikki do” when deciding on the level of sparkle. This is not a night for holding back. Hey, I’ll probably be sparkling it up at home on the couch! You have permission to do the same.
What to wear New Year's Eve - cocktail
1. Metalicus tee $89.95^ | 2. Dannii Minogue Petites loung pants $59 @ Target | 3. Salita Matthews necklace $490 @ Zambezee Boutiques | 4. Mollini heels $119.97 (on sale) at Styletread^ | 5. Adorne clutch $69.95
Tell me … do you have plans for New Year’s Eve? What kind of outfit is on your mind?

Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette

When is a light blue shirt not a good option? Layered or not, paired back with any type of denim including that of the same shade which is the perfect answer to the aversion to the Double denim, what more do you want? If like me you have shirts as staples alongside the tee’s it is a never ending quest for the next perfect shirt. We don’t shy away from the mens department on the hunt for a new one…. shirt not a new man (I have got that covered) and why try to get a boyfriend fit when you can go straight to the source and actually have the shirt from his back. I layer with my summer answer to my knit obsession – a knit tee which works as a the texture piece in an all white ensemble as well as the alternative to the classic white tee.
As we are nearing summer the wardrobe rework is happening while I try to hang on to my style and not get settled into denim cut offs and tshirts for every outfit. Injecting some skirts of which I will get up next week and show that summer can be about black and a minimal edgy flavour and if you are not a print and color pop kind of girl not to worry. It could also be a good chance to shake it up a little and be daring with one highlight color or monochrome prints.
We will see.

Too Faced Natural Eyes Palette

My absolute new favourite thing....

I went shopping at the Macquarie Centre on the weekend, the first time I've been there since it's been done up. Not only did I get my Christmas shopping done, I also bought myself a few things (see video above).

This eyeshadow palette is soooo good. My first bit of Too Faced makeup and I'm hooked.
Every colour is so pigmented and it has the perfect combination of matte and shimmery shades. I love the Silk Teddy colour.

A WEEK IN PHOTOS WITH PENTAX K-S1

A WEEK IN PHOTOS WITH PENTAX K-S1 - From LoveofCloth

Pentax
I was super excited to test out the new Pentax K-S1, thanks to the lovely folk at Ricoh Imaging.
Challenging me to document a week in photos, which no surprise consisted of a lot of trees and decorations. If you follow my instagram you will have seen my daily dose of #ks1mas.

The camera couldn’t be cuter and fits perfectly in my bag for snapping on the go, which makes a change from my heavy bigger Canon. However don’t be fooled by its fun exterior, this camera means business. Check out the website for all the spec. The K-S1 is usually priced at £599.99 but I have spied it on offer for £499. Shuuuuuuu!

Fancy winning your very own K-S1 from Ricoh Imaging UK? Then why not check out the #ks1mas competition on Facebook.

I usually end up buying lots of little knick-knacks like the above but who could resist a cute hot water bottle, colourful socks and an initial mug? – the perfect winter package I think.

For the fashionable gents amongst us the guys at Cloth have made a handy little gift guide.  I know Simon has spied and already hinted at some pieces like these boots and this coat (what happened to our budget eh?)

Beard bitsBeard oil, moustache was and beard wash - Percy Nobleman

Percy Nobleman is my kind of guy. He believes in "Beards, good times, good friends, good memories, and of course, looking after yourself!"
Now that both my brother and Simon are sporting beards, this little gem will most definitely go down a treat on Christmas day. The essentials kit comes with everything they need for a good looking beard. It also smells amazing!!
